Explain why some people do not believe in God.

The only point i can come up with is
- There is no proof

  1. that's one reason,

others are the existence of evil and suffering, which leads people to turn away-or question the existence of God.

This is because God is believed to be:

Omnipotent, omniscient and benevolent (all loving). So there should be no evil or suffering, -- if god was all these things.

The existence of evil and suffering presents a problem because then either God is not omniscient, omnipotent, benevolent. as, if god is all powerful he would be able to stop evil and sufffering, if he was all knowing he would know of all the things which cause suffering or evil, and stop it, and if he was all loving he would try and makea perfect world for us humans.

  3. Unanswered prayer was another reason I think.

Some people do not believe in God because they have tried praying, but they do not feel the presence of God when they do so. If they do not feel the presence of God in prayer, they may be led to believe that God doesn't exist - because if God existed, they would feel his presence while they prayed.

Or else they feel that God has left their prayer unanswered, even if their prayer is unselfish (for example, to end poverty). Because God is supposed to answer prayers, some people might question a God who answers some prayers, but not others. This might lead them to ask if God is really worth worshipping if he doesn't answer their prayers, or perhaps God doesn't exist at all if their prayers answered (If God existed, he would answer prayers).

    hope that helps ;)

  6. Some people also disregard belief in God because of the fact that religion and science are seen as incompatible. For instance, Genesis states that the world was created in 6 days, while the Big Bang theory states that it took billions of years (15?). The Big Bang theory also rejects the idea of a God - a finely timed expansion (inflation) of the Universe explains how we got here without any reference to God having a part in it. Additionally, the presence of fossils that are far older than Biblical records suggest supports this - either the Bible is wrong or the evidence of fossils is wrong.

In the face of such a dilemna, many people choose to believe that the idea that there is a god is wrong and therefore reject the idea that there is a God, as it seems more plausible to believe in somthing natural that we have experience with than something which we have no ability to experience.

Which leads on to a related point - some people don't believe in God because science offers a better explanation than religion. After all, it seems more plausible to some to believe in natural laws of science that we have an everyday experience of than to believe in a supernatural power that we have neither seen nor heard nor are ever able to experience directly.

  7. Tim, you can use the evil and suffering point as one paragraph and no more.

Good job Aaron, Emily and Melody.
